For some ideas, see HRG’s submission: HRG_Boundary Change submissions.docx
4 September 2025, 7pm, Strathfield Town Hall
Council has arranged a “Town Hall” meeting for the proposed name change.
“Strathfield Council is considering a proposed suburb boundary change to the area south of the railway line (including Strathbelle Apartments) would move from Homebush to Strathfield.
This change aims to:
Provide a clearer and more logical boundary (aligned with the railway line and major roads)
Reduce confusion for residents, visitors, businesses, and emergency services
Strengthen community identity
This is your chance to meet with Council Officers and the Mayor, hear more about the project, and ask questions directly”
HRG encourages all its members to attend by registering here.

Feedback from residents include already:
- “With a cleaner map and boundaries that match our everyday understanding of the area, Homebush will no longer be burdened with confusion over addresses that don’t quite ‘feel’ like Homebush. This means stronger community pride, better recognition for your suburb’s history and culture, and less frustration for you, your neighbours, and local businesses.”
- “The name change will help protect our heritage. Family renters and buyers don’t look at properties in Homebush, so we end up with a lot of anti-social behaviour.”
- “We’ve seen a trend of developers deliberately muddy the waters by saying a Homebush South property is in a high rise area in their applications, as an excuse to demolish heritage buildings or build tower blocks in our area.”
- “I live in Rochester St Homebush, and my house address is officially in Homebush, but my electricity and gas connection comes under Strathfield (same street number). This creates a lot of confusion….changing the name…will make a real difference.)
- “I call the Homebush Village shops the Rochester Street Shops already, so changing the suburb name Homebush to Strathfield doesn’t matter”
- “The Homebush War Memorial is in Strathfield and the Strathfield Library is in Homebush, so do whatever the residents in the affected streets want”.

Council is seeking submissions to change the suburb name of for that part south of the railway line from Homebush to Strathfield : see here.
HRG made a similar suggestion last year (see below), but it appears a number of councillors have taken up the issue.
HRG will make a specific submission on the proposal, and would appreciate member feedback. (So far, residents who would be subject to the name change are unanimously in favour of it.)

When the NSW Government sought comments about the its Transport Orientated Development (“TOD”) plans for Homebush, HRG made a submission: see HRG_TOD submission. One aspect dealt with was the anomaly of the suburb name for the streets south of the Homebush Station.
